I forget what type of squirrel this is, but he’s definitely a desert critter. He’s sitting under an Arizona walnut tree, but he’s stuffing himself with the abundant grass seeds rather than looking for nuts. His tail isn’t very bushy but it sure is red.


I published some squirrel photos today. If you look at them you might compare them with your squirrel to see if it is at least a cousin.
He’s almost perfectly camouflaged against that tree.
We have the American Grey Squirrel over here introduced in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century. They were imported onto a country estate (I think) and spread in abundance pushing out the native and smaller, and very beautiful, red squirrel. The reds are now confined to certain wilder parts of the UK. The Scottish Highlands, for instance, has quite a few. They’re gorgeous creatures. But I have a soft spot for the greys too. Would love to see reds back in London parks.
