Salt River Cotton

This cotton field is across the street from Scottsdale Community College on Salt River Pima/Maricopa tribal land. Looks like it’s just about ready to pick.

Wow…great balance and contrast. Love the wall sculpture too. Is the sculpture related to anything in particular (noticed you wrote Maricopa tribal land)?

The wall sculpture is part of a median dividing the road and controlling traffic, but on tribal land all new construction incorporates art. I believe the sculpture essentially incorporates shapes seen on pottery and baskets - basic designs that are part of the cultural consciousness. The man in the maze is now the tribal seal - it depicts the human journey through life.
