I just stumbled onto your site, love the photos. This months theme is kind of Ironic for me because I worked in the funeral industry for many years. Sine we have some time left in the month I would suggest a visit to Paradise Memorial Gardens. 92nd street and Shea, absolutely beautiful, pond with white geese. If you go, check out the mausoleum, wonderful artwork.

I found myself with a ton of photos to post after the visit to the cemetery in my town. My small one has about 45 people in it. I never realized how interesting of a place a cemetery could be to photograph.

This is very similar to the cemetery where I took my photo. Where have all the tall tombstones gone?

I think that is one thing I never liked about this cemetery, the flat in ground markers. Great shot of the light through the trees. Hope all is well. Big Hug!

laying gravestones flat is becoming standard practice in a lot of UK cemeteries -- our local cemetery has lots of stones tagged with an "unsafe" label.

Thank you for your comments. The trees do not predate the cemetery at all. This section of it perhaps. There are two fast-growing varieties here, the pine and the palm. The pine trees can grow a foot a year if given a lot of water. Same with the palm trees - the more water they get, the quicker they grow. I think the cemetery does plant the trees shortly after beginning burials in an area, but it looks to me like it happens in tandem. None of the trees are native species to the Sonoran desert in which Phoenix nests.
