Meteorite

This is a 138-pound chunk of the nickel-iron meteorite that formed meteor crater about 50,000 years ago, when woolly mammoths lived here. For perspective on size, the magnet ends sitting next to it measure about four inches from left to right. The original object was around 54 yards in diameter, and its impact produced an explosion 150 times that of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although this certainly devastaed the local flora and fauna, it seems not enough dust was kicked up to change world climate. This was not an extinction impact.

That fills me with such awe. To think how far it has traveled. And when. I want a piece to put on my desk. I have a nice smooth stone from a beach in Scotland. I like to touch it for spiritual pleasure and nourishment. I think the touch of a meteorite would have the same effect. If you hear of any others fooling in the near future could you let me know. Especially if they’re heading towards London. Thanks.
