These guys always freak me out a little bit. I know they’re incredibly useful in the clean-up of dead and decaying animals. But those blood-red eyes and the knowledge that they lay their eggs in decaying flesh combines to make the flesh fly seem rather creepy to me.
Yep. It is a fine old flesh fly. They are important creatures. I think I just posted another Green Bottle Fly. I call them my garden jewels.

usually those flies are difficult to approach. i loves the dark tones on the bark.
