I encountered this rock in a sandy river bed while camping with friends during February. It’s been split by the heat of a campfire, but was well away from any ring of rocks. I didn’t touch it, just photographed, but my curiosity got the better of me and I went back looking for it some days later. I wanted to look at the inside of the rock. But the river had ebbed and flowed, and moved my rock to a place unknown.

it looks like an egg
Very cool rock, nice subtle shades and colors, nice textures and story!
Wow, that’s beautiful.
And now that Maria’s said it looks like an egg, I think that it looks like a dinosaur egg.
Maybe it was.
Maybe that’s why it’s not there anymore.
Maybe there’s a Pterodactyl loose in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.
Could be a broken heart. But certainly something ancient and mysterious. Agree with Rupert. This is very beautiful.
nice close-up, there are pictures waiting to be taken everywhere, aren’t there?
Leave it to Rupert to solve the mystery - there is a giant bird loose in Phoenix (but of course it’s not a pterodactyl, it’s a phoenix, and that makes perfect sense because it obviously hatched and singed the exterior of the egg). Definitely ancient and mysterious. Yes. Thank you all for your comments.
