I used to sometimes dream about falling down out of the sky and landing on these and the experience was not a pleasant one. My mom used to plant these in little pots and had them all over the house. She said they were the only (she called them, "flowers") flowers she never killed because she forgot to water them. I seldom see them nowadays anywhere. I suppose that is good as in those days (World War II) I guess the cacti on sale in tiny pots were most likely stolen from the desert. I used to love to wander in the desert around Tucson (1951-1952) just free as a lark without any cares and about 1400 miles form mom and dad. Just a young snot-nosed kid seeing the world from my thumb. I can't imagine doing that these days.
