The Ocotillo plant is a bunch of sticks with big sharp thorns poking out of the ground. This picture is just off the sidewalk outside of the Federal courthouse building. In contrast to the idyllic fields of flowers or moss strewn streams found else where in the US, the south-western desert is a particularly nasty place. Everything is either has a poisons bite or will rip flesh to shreds. No one seems to mind the hazard, even on a downtown street.

Great picture you have for us Gary, today
I’m offering a Big Thank You for CDP support.

I’m wondering how they managed to plant such lethally thorned shrubs. I wonder also why the heat infers more thorns and spikes. Protection from sap sucking invaders I suppose, moisture retention being the key to survival. VEry nice shot, Gary.
